Recreational Dance Program

Bev Palmer Performing Arts is well known for our popular recreational classes for students aged from 7- 16 years old who just love to dance in a fun and safe environment.

Parents love and appreciate our experienced teachers, well organised classes and professional studios. Students in this program are always learning new skills and developing their love of dance, music and movement all whilst receiving good quality training with no pressure.

Our experienced teachers confidently guide our students to pick up choreography, follow instructions, and learn the advanced fundamentals of dance.

Recreational students at Bev Palmer Performing Arts love learning in a professional dance studio where they can be inspired by the elite students and assistant teachers who become their role models to look up to.

Jazz

Jazz incorporates a variety of dance styles and is a highly visual and powerful form of dance. 

This style encourages flexibility and instills a sense of strength in participants and involves kicks, turns, pirouettes, jumps and travelling diagonal work.

Broadway Jazz

A dance style which emanates that of the Broadway stage. 

Students have a blast mastering different numbers from shows such as West Side Story, Chicago, Legally Blonde and much more.

Tap

Tap dance is a type of dance characterised by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. Tap is a rhythmic and energetic dance style, with many of our students mastering complex and visually spectacular routines.

Hip Hop

The latest and most contemporary of our dance styles offered, our hip hop classes are designed for those students who want to learn the latest moves as seen on music videos. This dance style would be defined as being unrestricted and sharp, and includes a range of styles from funk, popping, locking, house, krumping, old school and more.

Classical Ballet

Classical ballet is a traditional and technical form of dance which provides the necessary grounding for all dance styles. The emphasis is on development of technique, building strength and helping to correct posture. It focuses on grace and discipline and improves posture, strength and flexibility. We offer examination classes (RAD syllabus based) and non-examination classes.

Acrobatics

This is a very physical class designed to teach the basics or more advanced levels of acrobatics depending on the student’s level of exposure to this style previously. The class includes tuition in cartwheels, flips, one handed cartwheels, no hand cartwheels, walkovers, back walkovers, flexibility and coordination.

Musical Theatre

This class teaches students how to read and interpret a script, improvise in character, connect with an audience and perform on stage. We cover the fundamental aspects of the art of acting with a focus on physical movement and gesture. The singing class consists of vocal warm up, melody, correcting pitch, sounds, mouth shapes and projection.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a style that is influenced by both ballet and jazz. 

It is an expressive dance form which includes abstract formations and focuses on centering, alignment, contraction, release and suspension.

Lyrical

Lyrical is a dance style that embodies various aspects of ballet, jazz, acrobatics and modern dance. Lyrical dance is strongly associated with clearly displayed emotional moods, fast-moving choreographic strategies, emphasis on virtuosic display, illustration of song lyrics, and, in group form, exact unison.
